Seamariner Limited is urging seafarers to remain vigilant when responding to online maritime job advertisements, following reports of individuals being asked to make payments for recruitment, placement, training or certification.
Fraudulent advertisements may use the names, logos or vacancies of genuine shipping companies, recruitment agencies or training providers. The use of a legitimate organisation’s details does not necessarily mean the opportunity or person making contact is authorised.
Seafarers should be particularly cautious of unexpected fees, pressure to make payments, requests to transfer money to individuals or unfamiliar accounts, or job offers made without an appropriate recruitment process.
Seamariner would like to reaffirm that neither Seamariner nor any other reputable maritime recruitment agency should require seafarers to pay recruitment or placement fees in order to secure employment.
Before providing payment or sensitive personal information, seafarers should independently verify who they are dealing with and retain copies of any suspicious advertisements or communications.
If in doubt, reach out to us directly to verify any contact. Our official contact details can be found here: Our Team
