New PSSR Training Requirement for Seafarers

The UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) has issued new guidance regarding amendments to the Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR) requirements.

Under the updated requirements, all affected UK-certified seafarers must complete additional training covering the prevention and response to violence and harassment, including bullying, sexual harassment and sexual assault.

The training is available free of charge online through OneOcean and takes approximately one hour to complete. Seafarers with an MCA-approved PSSR certificate issued on or after 1 January 2026 do not need to complete the additional module, as the updated content is already included in their course.

For those who are required to complete the additional training, the deadline is 31 March 2027. Upon completion, seafarers will receive a digital Verification of Training document, which should be retained as evidence of completion.

Seamariner encourages all affected seafarers to familiarise themselves with the updated requirements and complete the training well ahead of the deadline.
